Formaldehyde

Earlier this year this additive to everything from carpeting to hair straightening formulas was finally categorized as a definite cancer-causing chemical. After languishing on the "reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen" roster for decades.

So be sure  to check the ingredients in what you buy to make sure you aren’t bringing this into your home.

For years we’ve been scaling the food pyramid in an attempt to get the perfect portions of fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy and grains. This summer, the government made it easier on us, serving up its nutritional guidelines on a plate.

MyPlate better balances the number of calories we should be eating. Fruits, vegetables, grains and protein are now sectioned into quarters, while dairy is a small side accompaniment. Hopefully, the clear and simple "visual cues" will contribute to healthier eating choices.

After spending the earlier part of the year trying for a child and going through numerous in vitro sessions, TV personality Giuliana Rancic found she had breast cancer.

She opted for a double lumpectomy followed by a double mastectomy, the same procedure comedian Wanda Sykes underwent earlier this year

2012 Presidential hopeful Michele Bachman knew her migraines had a way of sidetracking her daily routines, but she never thought they would sidetrack her campaign.

Political peers started questioning just how much they  would interfere with her handling the demands and pressures of presidency.

After a seven-year battle, Apple Inc, co-founder Steve Jobs finally succumbed to pancreatic cancer.

Diagnosed in early 2004, Jobs hope he could cure himself through diet and alternative treatments. But his survival depended on surgery, which still couldn't save him.

For those living with advanced prostate cancer, they’ve been given the gift of four extra months to live. That’s if they have the $90,000 Sipuleucel-T, a vaccine approved by the Food and Drug Administration earlier this year.

But if you are at risk of developing prostate cancer and don’t have $90,000 lying around for future treatment, you may want to try out these free prevention tips.
